Apply for funding:

In general, students find a mentor and then apply for funded research programs with their help. The College of Science SUREscience summer research program matches students with mentors and does not require experience, but it is competitive and requires solid academic performance so students should also seek opportunites to volunteer. OSU has other research funding available that gives priority to students with experience, and many sources of funding require a proposal developed with a faculty member. Nationally funded programs (REUs and others) are more competitive and generally require previous experience, but mentors are often assigned as part of these programs. See the lists of OSU, regional and national opportunities below for details.
