The Department of Integrative Biology has spent the past academic year giving back in many ways. On an educational level, department volunteers worked hard to provide K-12 students direct access to the field through day camps, fairs and working in high school science classes. One event involved avian behavior trials that K-8 students could actively participate in.
The department also promoted biology to the general public, hosting a broadcast on OSU’s radio station and presenting at several Science on Tap events. It also participated in an OMSI After Dark science outreach event.
To promote higher education opportunities, $3,000 was raised for undergraduate research thanks to coordinating the C2C Fundraising Run. The IB Club also hosted a birding trip to Finley National Wildlife Refuge and a member of the department traveled to Nepal to train scientists on Oxford Nanopore DNA sequencing technology.
The department’s outreach work left a profound impact in Oregon and beyond and will continue strong into the next year.
