Paleobiology class takes field trip to John Day Fossil Beds

Rebecca Terry's Z 427/527 Paleobiology class took a weekend field trip to the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Students learned about Oregon's rich fossil record. They prospected for fossils and found many interesting things, including about five specimens that were important enough to be catalogued into the permanent collection at the museum. They found cool things like "Mouse Deer" and "Bear Dogs". The visit was highlighted by the opportunity to view a complete Oredont skeleton that will be jacketed in plaster and excavated next month.
